40 years from skinny, shy, wallflower to bad-ass mom. I have learned to appreciate all life has to offer, good and bad. I’m a single mom with a disabled child who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a fatal, muscle wasting disease. My son is 18 and most likely won’t see his 30th birthday. It sucks, but I’m not looking for sympathy. I want to encourage all of you to be grateful for what you have; be proud of what you have accomplished; and tell your family and friends that you love them as often as you possibly can – make it weird. ❤️ Life is hard, and life is short. Be grateful for it all.
My son & I have travelled in 49 states (Alaska will be # 50 hopefully in 2026) and 10 countries which is amazing especially since he’s in a wheelchair. We even tackled Italy with me in an air-cast pushing him and carrying him up steps. 💪 My son plays volt hockey which is adaptive indoor floor hockey played in specialized power wheelchairs. His team, the Boston Whiplash, was the first volt hockey team in the US. He played with his team in the first Volt Hockey World Cup tournament in Sweden in 2022. My son started college in NH this fall, and I moved from MA to be closer to his school.
I hope to see a lot of you at our reunion, and I hope you’ll be gracious and kind and remember to laugh and hug and cry. Oh yeah, let’s see…I work for a software company in planned giving which is my 3rd career after many jobs and 3 graduate degrees. Yes, I’m still paying off my student loans while my son is applying for his college loans. 🙄 Retirement is not an option as I plan to keep working until I can’t. I’m old, achey, overweight, and perpetually exhausted, but I keep on keepin’ on. Love ya’ from beautiful NH.
