My turn!
After SHHS graduation, I studied English and then got a masters in Education. Never a teacher, I’ve worked in nonprofits involving some combination of health, education, equity and/or food. Now I run a nonprofit with a big community garden, food education for +2000 kids each year, and a bunch of food access programs. It’s the most demanding job I’ve had, and I love it.
After college and grad school in the Boston area, where I met my husband, Joel, I lived in New York City (3 years), San Francisco (12), and Swarthmore, a cool little college town outside of Philadelphia (13). I loved being part of all these communities.
Joel and I married in 1998 and have 2 kids. Isa is 24, lives in SF, and sells tech software to state and city governments. Felix is a senior at University of California, Berkeley and is making all the moves towards medical school. My favorite thing about my life is how much fun we have as a family and how close each of us is to the others.
Along the way, I got outdoorsy and nature-loving! Now we live in Park City, where there’s tons of year-round mountain fun. We always planned to end up out west, but UT was a surprise for us both. Joel was offered his dream job out here, though, and we’ve moved enough to know that if it wasn’t great, we could move. Turns out, it’s better than great.
In addition to working my a** off and hiking, biking, skiing, running, and doing lots of yoga, I spend my free time writing movie reviews for our local NPR affiliate, cooking, dabbling in local politics, and helping Joel foster a service puppy.
My mom still lives in Summit, now in an apartment near downtown, so I’m back visiting her frequently. The last time I was there, I randomly ran into Amy Houpt Medaris while crossing the street. Now I’ll keep my eyes peeled for old classmates when in Summit – and look forward to seeing many of you next week.
Meanwhile, you’re all invited to Park City for the final Sundance Film Festival this winter and the Olympics in 2034! Cheers!
